Scientific work varies in scope and effort. Each work contains a number of specific features and requirements that are important. Among other things: to formulate a problem, to treat a problem critically and methodically, to draw conclusions independently, to structure and plan the research question.

Among the most commonly used types of writing in the study is the seminar paper. This is a scientifically designed text “on a small scale”, but in its form corresponds to a “real” great work. This is a preliminary exercise, a training field for the future thesis. The one who is able to write his first term paper independently, will later also independently and without writing help to handle other academic texts. It may be that the work is praiseworthy in content, but not quite ideal. There are also textually good, but still unstructured, chaotic-looking texts that require a proofreading.

The purpose of the term paper is therefore to practice scientific problems independently and to present the result in writing, logically and in a structured manner. The same applies to a homework or project work. In some colleges it is possible to discuss selected works in a colloquium and in this way also to train the oral scientific language.

Successfully writing a term paper with the following tips

Even if a seminar group deals with one and the same topic during the semester, it is still possible and necessary to find a specific question that can be dealt with in the seminar paper. Since a lot of research is available online today, and books are easy and fast to acquire via Internet providers, you should have no problem doing a literature search. It is the starting point of every seminar paper. The literature research can be very extensive if it is a large term paper. For a smaller term paper you may not need any new literature because you are given the sources. You orient yourself by concrete texts and analyze them. Or your task for the term paper is to develop a project idea. Then you will u.U. need specific knowledge in computer programs to create different tables, graphics.

During the literature research, take notes at the same time. You can use it later for work. Although some sources seem useless at first glance, you should also include them in the list; You can still delete them later. During your studies you will receive instructions for working with scientific texts. How many sources need to be used depends on the scope of the work. You can reach from ten to thirty sources. After the literature search, you can start with the problem. Concretize your question and your topic, it must not be too broad. Formulating questions that are based on what you already know about the topic can be the beginning of your work. These questions are about highlighting those issues that are interesting to you and that you want to answer with your work.

Still more notes for writing the work

You have certainly heard in the seminar one or the other presentation on specific problem cases. Often a presentation, not just your own, is the first step in creating a job. You find out that the term paper has to use different approaches, statements, opinions of several authors / scientists as well as their theories. This makes it possible to draw comparisons, to find arguments, to designate pros and cons.

The next step is the writing itself

You should first design an outline, call chapters and some sections about and estimate your respective scope. In the writing process, first write down your own thoughts as key points. Then add to the framework the thoughts and theories of other scientists and authors you’ve read – if they let themselves be integrated into your scientific approach. Over time you will find out for yourself the best structure of your work.

A good tip: Do not try to make everything perfect while writing. In the design mistakes are allowed, you can still try it out. Write quotes directly from the literature, you can use them later in the work. However, also remember to identify these pieces of text as quotes in the correct form and manner, ie quotes and / or footnotes.

You build your work so that you find a solution or scientific explanation for a research problem. That means you’re checking your hypotheses or looking for the best ideas for your project. The scientific process must be traceable and transparent. The more clearly you explain your thoughts and theses, the more comprehensible it becomes for your lecturer, supervisor or general reader. Of course, the text should also be subject-specific and content-wise valuable. Also linguistically level is required. When you come to the conclusion, you need to show what you have accomplished with your investigation, what difficulties have arisen, and what controversial aspects and evidence your viewpoints support.

When writing your work, do not keep thinking about reaching the required page number and doing everything formally. First and foremost, quality and well-written content matter. You should explore your topic, consider a certain amount of literature, and ultimately look at it critically. Being critical of yourself is particularly difficult when you have written the term paper yourself. That’s why it’s good to have an objective editor do the proofreading, or hire a ghostwriter to check the spelling. Formal errors can still be addressed later. Do not hesitate to consult a stranger and have him look over the work.
